In 1993 Ray & Lynette Klavins purchased a 35 acre property in the Skilly Hills region in the Clare Valley. It was covered in Salvation Jane, 20 truckloads of rubbish & a derelict old dairy but, armed with a degree from Roseworthy College (now Adelaide University), Ray knew the undulating hills were a great location for growing grapes. Through careful vineyard planning & management, Penna Lane have produced outstanding wines in accordance with their philosophy that wine is made in the vineyard.
Right from the very first vintage, the Riesling has won awards & reviews every single year. Since it’s inception in 2001, it has won 4 trophies, 9 medals (Including 3 gold & 3 silver), & 6 reviews of 90+ Points / 4.5+ Stars, with every single vintage receiving accolades. The 2007 won a silver at the Hyatt International Riesling Challenge in Canberra, while the 2004 Riesling won the 2007 Winestate Wine of the Year & Riesling of the Year.
